Do you work in a cubicle?

If the answer is "yes" you will find this very funny. If the answer is "no", you probably don't need to click on this link.

There's something about a wedding

Sunday afternoon I logged on to the internet to find an email that read:

"Hey Mr. & Mrs. Bumpy, as you know Rick and I have been engaged for a while now. We haven't really made any specific plans for a wedding, so here's the deal... we are having a ceremony Monday evening on the beach at Golden Gardens..."

Last night we attended the wedding of Rick Herron and Liz Smith (now Mr. and Mrs Herron) and although it was spur of the moment and a little chaotic, it was absolutely beautiful. It's amazing how the marriage of two people, no matter how formal or informal the situation, manages to bring a tear to my eye every time. So many of us spend so much time and effort on our weddings that we get caught up in the event and forget about the reason we are doing in. Don't get me wrong, I had my dream wedding and wouldn't change a thing, but it was nice to be reminded of the core of these events. LOVE.
Enjoy the pictures (please forgive the lighting).

Wild Waves Enchanted Village

Maddie's first visit to Wild Waves Enchanted Village was nothing short of exciting. She had an absolute blast. She loved the big waterslides (especially Zooma Falls which is a raft slide that accomodates up to 4 people on a raft at a time so we were all able to go together). The only thing that could have made it any better was if she was 6" taller and could go on the Timberhawk Roller Coaster like she so badly wanted.

Sorry but no pictures of this weekends events.

On a side note, my "pointy kitty" is coming along quite nicely.

Maddie wants a cat

Maddie wants a cat for her birthday which Kevin and I agree is absolutely out of the question.

As a surprise I have decided to try my hand at sewing and make her a stuffed one (or what we refer to in our home as a "stuffy"). I found this cute pattern on one of my favorite artsy blogs. Wish me luck!

(Did I mention I don't sew?)

Weekly Update

Life is busy and always changing.

Kevin recently began his career as an HVAC technician. For the past few weeks he has been job shadowing other technician's. Last week he received his very own work van (yay for note having to pay for gas!) and today he went out on his own for the first time doing standard maintenance calls. The job seems to be going well. The days are long and his skin gets darker by the day (working on roof tops in 80 degree weather will do that to you). Other than a few wasp stings and minor chemical burns he seems to be enjoying it and finding it intersting. I am learning all about "coils" and "unit maintenance" from our afternoon and evening conversations.

Maddie is doing well. Her vocabulary and comprehension seem to be taking off now that she is going to school full time. Yesterday she came hope with some scratches on her face which I later found out were caused by "Lucy McCain" hitting her because she "stepped in her ship" (large boat loacated in the sand area on the preschool play yard). Luckily Maddie didn't hit back.

We are keeping busy with the family time that we get now that we all are on the same schedule. This weekend we may go hiking, but that is yet to be determined. Our laundry is backing up and we need to get working on Maddie's birthday party plans so we shall see.

I hope everyone is well!

A play on an Independence Day must have...

Apple Pie! I decided that apple pie is a must on the 4th whether you are sitting at home, hanging at GasWorks or attending the neighborhood bbq. This year however I decided to mix it up a bit. I figure we live in Seattle right? It's ok to get funky. So I made a Glazed Apple Cream Pie.

I HIGHLY recommend it. See below for easy instructions and pictures. Happy 4th of July!

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (15 ounce) package pastry for double-crust pie
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon butter, softened
DIRECTIONS

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup cream, and 1/4 cup butter. Heat until butter is melted, stirring occasionally. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, 2 tablespoons milk, and vanilla; stir into saucepan. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool slightly.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). In a medium bowl, combine the apples, flour, and cinnamon. Mix well.Line a 9 inch pie pan with pie dough. Pour thickened filling mixture into pastry-lined pi e pan. Arrange apple mixture evenly overfilling. Top with second crust, seal and flute the edges. Cut slits in top crust.

Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Cool for at least 30 minutes. In small bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon softened butter. Blend until smooth; pour evenly over warm pie. Refrigerate for AT LEAST 1 1/2 hours before serving (longer is better).
